5) Should I have my carpet dry cleaned or steam cleaned?
As mentioned earlier, most major carpet manufacturers recommend truck-mounted hot water extraction as the preferred method. Hot-water extraction done properly by a certified trained technician removes more soil and spots than dry cleaning methods.
6) How long does the carpet take to dry?
The normal drying time is anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. The carpet will only be damp to the touch. Depending on weather conditions, room temperature, air flow, and overall conditions this time can vary. During winter weather we recommend to have your heater on at about 75 to 80 degrees for faster drying. We can also provide an air blower for initial airflow to speed up the drying process. We also provide you with shoe booties so that you can walk on your carpet while it is drying.
7) How long does carpet cleaning take?
Our carpet cleaning technicians number one job is to give you the best carpet cleaning experience ever. They will try to clean your carpet as prompt as possible without compromising the cleaning outcome. Normal carpet cleaning times differ due to soil conditions and treatments being performed. The basic carpet cleaning for a regular 3 bedroom home with the living room, dining room, stairs and hallway included will take about 2 hrs.

We can move beds and dressers for an extra cost
9) I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this true?
The reason for this is because some unexperienced carpet cleaners will use very strong solutions when it is not needed. In fact, many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at least once per year. The build up of soil in your carpet in combination with foot traffic creates abrasion that breaks down your carpet's fibers. The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning. This myth however comes from customers that have experienced poor carpet performance after professionally cleaned. This will actually take some of the manufacturers stain resistant qualities of the carpet making it more easily stainable. We strongly recommend to re-apply carpet protector after professional cleanings.

10) Can you get the pet odor out of my carpet?
California Steam Clean prides itself on being the best at odor removal. We can get rid of odors the other companies wouldn’t know how to deal with. The problem with pet odor is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. This creates a problem that is multi-layered.
The urine also provides for the growth of bacteria. This, in turn, contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber.
To eliminate this problem the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers effected. If the contamination is light and limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning with a topical deodorizer may effectively remove the odor.
In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required. Our professional carpet cleaning technicians can help you asses the contamination and help you make the most cost affective and best way of removing that odor. Sometimes it is best to just replace the carpet. Even though we have been very successful in removal of odors, we cannot guarantee complete removal of the odor.
Left untreated over a period of time pet odor can become absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. Draperies, sheet rock, upholstered furniture, base-boards, even the concrete foundation are just a few of the materials that can absorb these odors. For more information about our odor removal treatments and methods go to our carpet cleaning page or simply call.

11) I sometimes smell an odor when the carpet was cleaned, what is that?
The smell that you are experiencing is most likely the cause of a dormant odor. Dormant odors are hidden odors you can’t smell until some type of moisture activates them. Normally these odors are caused by a pet accident or bacterial growth because something was not picked up correctly. If present, dormant odors will usually improve when the carpet dries. Because this is a pre existing condition we are not responsible for dormant odors. To eliminate dormant odors, the source has to be neutralized or eliminated. Ask us about odor removal.
12) Do you treat for flees on carpets?
No, please contact a pest control company or we can refer you to one. The treatment for flees should be done prior to the carpet cleaning.
13) Do you offer anything for allergy relief?
The average person sheds about a gram and a half of skin each day. These particles are very small and get deeply embedded in our carpets, upholstery, mattresses, and bedding. These particles are the food source for dust mites. Dust mites have a very potent allergen in their droppings that is known to cause up to 25% of allergies worldwide. California steam clean can clean and treat your carpets, upholstery and fabrics with special hypo-allergenic, non toxic cleaning agents that neutralize allergens for up to six months.

14) Last time my carpets were cleaned the spots came back, why is that?
This is a common problem in our industry and is called wicking. It can be caused by two things; One, the spot or area had heavy soil buildup due to improper carpet maintenance and is going to need a second cleaning. Two a residue was left behind in an attempt to clean up a spill that in return the residue attracts dirt back to that same spot making the spot re-appear. Some un-experienced carpet cleaners will over wet the carpet driving soil deeper into the carpet and contributing to wicking. There is treatment available for wicking but cleaning the carpet is first recommended to find out what areas need more attention.
15) What are those ugly black lines around the baseboards and under doorways?
If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet. This soiling is called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a build up has occurred.
This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. Can it be removed? Sometimes. With special products, time and effort, reasonable results can sometimes be achieved. To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum and wipe the edges of the carpeting on a regular basis. Be careful around the tackstrip on the edge of the carpeting, it could nick your fingers
